Overview
Type design is a careful methodical practice, balancing understatement with innovation. Working with students, I try to lead them to pare down to the essence of the font they’re creating, and help them with any technical and optical know-how they need along the way. The SVA Residency Program is a relay-race of teaching, and has been taught in conjunction with Tobias Frere-Jones, Matteo Bologna, Lynne Yun, Dan Rhatigan, Paul Shaw, Cyrus Highsmith, and others.
