Typography: Reading and Looking H.S18S H.S21F H.S22S

Overview

These courses are for designers and non-designers alike, with an emphasis on the contemporary critical discourse around typography, and fine-tuning our ability to see and perceive. The practice consists of contemporary critical readings, visual journals, and analyzing the type that’s around us via long-form written analysis and type-first visual design. The type specimen project, showcased below, asks students to create a monochrome response to the essence inherent in their chosen font, making a design that uniquely brings that typeface’s best features to light.
